Anyone who has founded a startup will tell you that there’s no easy road to success. There will be late nights, early mornings, and perhaps a few tears as you navigate yourself and your team through the ultimate business gauntlet.
And while it’s true that success is dependent on many things, some of which will be out of your control, our research found that a core foundation of entrepreneurial success lies in the motivations and attitudes of the founder. With the right education and coaching, you can work on your own attitudes and motivations in business to overcome obstacles and improve your chance of success.
Fingerprint for Success (F4S) can illuminate these attitudinal strengths and weaknesses, as well as detect the areas you could benefit from a co-founder or mentor to steer you in the right direction. Here's how we do it:
What the heck are ‘attitudinal strengths’, anyway?
Fingerprint for Success is an interactive, online platform that will, upon a user completing the assessment, deliver a razor-sharp and unique analysis of that person’s deepest attitudes and motivations in business.
Created based on twenty years of research by our founder and CEO, Michelle Duval, it was (and remains) her desire to see all people thrive and realise their unique talent.
This far-reaching scientific study included qualitative research, followed by a quantitative component of founders who sold their businesses for between $6 million and $1.2 billion, as well as business builders who grew businesses over ten-to-fifteen years or longer.
We measured forty-eight business attitudes and motivations, looking for correlations between success and failure. We then applied the findings to over one thousand entrepreneurs over four-and-a-half years to see what impact this had on business success.
Through this, we uncovered correlations that were, in essence, counter-intuitive (and pretty much the opposite of content being taught as part of business school programs), but the proof was right there in the groundbreaking data.
How do you develop founders and prime them for success?
Education is an incredibly powerful tool, and while attitudes can be ingrained in a founder, once they are illuminated via our platform we can pinpoint the areas in which an individual is thriving and those where they might be experiencing a struggle.
The app delivers 24/7 coaching tools to help them understand each attitude and how it applies to the entrepreneurial landscape, as well as where they sit as compared to successful founders.
This gives a deep insight into the blind spots that may affect business success, such as a high focus on structure and planning. It may seem surprising that too much structure would have a negative impact, but our research found that people who focused too heavily in this area were associated with early-stage venture failure.
When you can uncover your personal strengths and weaknesses and become empowered with the knowledge to change and strengthen the entrepreneurial attitudes that will help you most, it can really shed light on a much more positive path in your business future.
And by the way, there’s no such thing as “bad” F4S results. Every single person has entrepreneurial talents and blind spots. You can work through them, or even find a complementary co-founder with strengths in the areas you’re struggling in.
Can you help with co-founders and teams?
Fingerprint for Success can be used to compare team members and co-founders, so you can see at a glance where your skills are complementary and have a relationship to success.
It’s an excellent tool for finding the right co-founder and the right people when crafting your own dream team, so you can ensure individuals are using their skills in the right role and thriving.
Everyone has a uniqueness worth celebrating, and entrepreneurial talents – what are yours?
