“Don’t be Times Square”

More than 50 StartCon entrepreneurs joined us for a night of key insights from Founder of Finder.com and Finder.com.au, Fred Schebesta. The focus of the talk was going global: how, when, and why. Having launched in the US last year, Fred was keen to impart some lessons learned.

Taking a slightly different approach, Fred encouraged keeping things simple, finding a quiet market, and exploiting that. So why America? To put it simply one of Fred’s staff was moving there, so Finder followed – stressing the importance of keeping good people when you find them.REGISTER

      DON’T MISS STARTCON’S NEXT EVENT

As always, StartCon entrepreneurs represented a range of industries. We were thrilled to see a diverse range of startups represented: from emergency safety technology, to fintech, to design.

Once again the event was hosted in the Freelancer.com offices with the generous support of our top 3 sponsors: Freelancer, Warrior Forum, and Softlayer.

We are always keen to reward our attendees.

All attendees, received a discount to our next event. Additionally, they were also treated to a special giveaway from Softlayer. All startups in attendance, that were less than 3 years old, received 12 months free hosting on Softlayer’s high performance cloud. A real perk to attending StartCon events! We’ll make sure we keep the benefits coming.

Fred presented for over 30 mins, before opening the floor to questions, and there were A LOT. Definitely a sign of an engaging speaker.

Key questions focussed on understanding financial regulations, building company culture, and how to get inspired.

Fred let the audience into a secret: he uses books and films to get inspired, citing Steve Jobs’ autobiography as a huge influence.

After the hour was over and the second half of networking began, a big crowd around Fred, made sure that any burning questions were answered one-on-one. We always try to pick great speakers who are willing to get involved with networking and engaging with our entrepreneurs.

We were thrilled with another great turn out and some great networking. We always love to hear the stories of our entrepreneurs, be they serial entrepreneurs on their 5th or 6th project or students who are just starting out.

The full write up of Fred’s talk will be available online later this week.

The video will form part of our StartCon Digital Pass for 2016 which will be available for purchase shortly.

Our next event is March 3rd with Founder of nimble, Greg Ellis. Registration is still open here.
